Our PAC needs you!

After serving 2-3 years plus, most of the current Executive officers will be stepping down at the upcoming AGM in October owing to various personal reasons (life changes, no longer having children enrolled at our school, health challenges).

We are in need of new parents to take on these roles so that we may continue to have a functioning PAC.

One of the main functions of the PAC is to oversee and distribute the BC Community Gaming Grant funds which we apply for each year, and to ensure that these monies are distributed as equitably as possible throughout all the various Navigate/NIDES programs province-wide.
Some of the many projects and initiatives we’ve supported are:
-scholarships for graduating students
-Jeff Stewart Memorial medals and scholarship
-community events such as the Corn Roast and year-end picnic
-student & parent workshop series (language arts, nutrition, and math) via Zoom
-VEX Robotics and the new Junior Robotics Club
-Destination Imagination teams
-field trips
-community garden
-playground equipment
-school retreats

In order for us to continue being eligible to apply for the BC Community Gaming Grant, we must have a functioning PAC Executive consisting of the following:
-up to 4 members-at-large

The current Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, and at least 2 members-at-large will be retiring.  We are in great need for people to fill these positions.  Without the absolute minimum of Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary, the PAC will cease to function.

These past 3 years, it has been wonderful to have growing representation from different locations and programs.   We sincerely hope that more parents across the province will become involved in the PAC.  I, personally, have really enjoyed my tenure as Chair, and in particular enjoyed learning about the wider Navigate-NIDES community through the monthly reports from our administrators and school Trustee.  Serving on PAC is a wonderful way to be more actively involved in your children’s education and our school community.

At present, the Treasurer would need to be someone local to Courtenay-Comox, and most likely the Secretary to be as well.  Chair, vice-Chair, and member-at-large positions may be served from anywhere in BC.

Serving on PAC has been a hugely rewarding experience for me.  If you are interested in learning more about any of these positions and/or are wiling to stand for nomination, please email me at navigatepac@gmail.com or Private Message me through our PAC FaceBook page.

I look forward to speaking with you!

Anna King
